10 High School Graduation Gift Ideas
Tis the season of graduation ceremonies and open house parties! When you have a schedule packed full of graduation events, it gets hard to think about easy gift ideas that are thoughtful and useful. Here is a list of 10 high school graduation gift ideas that are sure to be used and not just packed away before going to college.
1: The Book of all Books to prepare them for college – The Naked Roommate
This book is full of advice from college students and other experts, on how to handle delicate
and seemingly awkward situations one might encounter in college: such as a drunk or high roommate, dealing with credit cards & debt and even body image.
All students love cash – they can use it anywhere, any time and maybe they are saving up for a car or another big ticket item for which they need all the cash they can get. Either way, you can never go wrong with good ole dollars.
Graduates may be moving out of state to go to college or staying in their home area, but either way – they will need luggage! College students are usually not able to stay in the dorms over holiday breaks, which means they have to pack it all up and come home at least 3-4 times per year. You can’t go wrong with a quality set of luggage to make those transitions a little easier on them.
A Gift Basket – Baskets are always one of the best and most useful gifts – There are many ways you can create a basket but here are a few ideas
4: Laundry/ Cleaning Basket
detergent, laundry basket, hangers, dryer sheets, tide sticks for on the go stains, fabric softener, laundry bags for carrying dirty clothing, dish soap, sponges/ scrubbers for dishes, cleaning wipes, hand sanitizer
5: Shower/ Toiletry Basket
flip flops, tooth brushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, shampoo, conditioner, body soap, shaving cream, razors, deodorant, face wash, lotion, q tips, towels, shower caddy
6: Food Basket
non perishable food items such as ramen noodles, oatmeal, microwave meals, easy to cook food items, bottles of water, their favorite sauces or dressings, snack foods etc. You could even throw in a set of plastic dishes that are easy to wash and carry or a lunch container that can easily fit into their backpack.
7: Gift Cards
Gift Cards are a great way to make sure your cash gift goes toward needed items or to make sure they use it for ‘me’ time to get out and take a break between classes. For example, a massage envy gift card gets them a massage or a facial, a movie theater gift card gets them out to see a movie with a friend or a restaurant gift card to give them a break from dorm food for an evening. All are great ways to make sure they get a much needed break from academics.
8. College Gear
College gear can be expensive but all students want to be able to represent the college they were accepted to. Get them shirts, sweatshirts, sweatpants or other collegiate gear so they can start their freshman year in style. You really can’t go wrong here.
9. Survival Kit
Every high school graduate, whether they are going off to college or not, needs a good survival kit for life as an adult. Here are some ideas.
school supplies, sewing kit, nail kit, hair care kit, melatonin (for those sleepless nights), medicine cabinet items (tylenol, ibuprofen, first aid kit etc), alarm clock, phone charger, backpack, car items (jumper cables, cleaning kit, air fresheners, gas card), headphones, key finder – and anything else that might solve a problem they could run into as an adult.
10: Remedies for Getting Homesick
Most college students will get homesick at some point – so be sure to send them off with remedies to help them fight off that ‘I miss home’ feeling. A photo album works wonders, cards from their friends they will miss the most, framed printed pictures of family or their favorite pet, blankets and pillows from home, their favorite movies or music you listen to or watch together, mom or dad’s homemade foods, plane ticket credit so they can fly home during holidays and anything else that reminds them of home or gives them easy access to family when they need it.
